Hello, I've compiled a video where Marco Katya, designer at the design company Figma, talks about how to create a website to express yourself.
1. Why you need a portfolio
Before I came to Figma, I worked at a startup. But that company closed down, and I felt like I needed a new portfolio. But it wasn't an easy task. So I decided to make use of my experience in creating websites using a tool called Webflow.
2. Utilize designs with Webflow
Using Webflow, I was able to bring my designs to life. For example, in the food delivery app, I was able to experience the order flow. Also, in the design for scheduling, I was able to experience the feeling of sharing my available time with others.
3. Create a portfolio
After making all the prototypes with Webflow, I felt that each website was necessary. But I didn't want to hide them behind pages that could easily be overlooked. So I used a vent grid layout for my homepage and placed each prototype in my own space so everything was easy to see and organize.
4. Balance between self-introduction and product
While the product expressed itself, I also needed to tell visitors about myself. So I designed and built Apple Music photos, podcasts, tweets, etc. as vent grid items. This has allowed me to incorporate myself into my work. After publishing my portfolio and all of its effects, I clicked the publish button. As a result, my portfolio attracted attention from Diagram, a company that creates design tools, and I had the opportunity to lead design for Diagram.
5. Projects using Webflow
My first project with Diagram was to create a teaser site for the AI design tool “Genius,” which we were developing. Using Webflow, I designed a microsite and was specific about what we were making. Balance between design and build In my design process, I spend around 30% of my time exploring ideas in Figma, deciding what to make, and creating the overall feel and structure. The remaining 70% of the time is spent implementing ideas in Webflow.
6. Summary
I've used Webflow to bring my design work to life and create a portfolio, brand, and personal style that expresses myself and my design skills. And I believe you too can express yourself to the fullest using Webflow and other tools. The next time I visit your site, I expect it to show you exactly who you are.
